Researchers at IVF Australia have developed a single hormone test which will help determine how many eggs a woman has in her ovaries.

This test will be of great help in improving family planning and treatment of infertility. While controlling the human population is a big challenge in developing economies, the rate of infertility is rising across globe. According to some reports – one in five couples suffers from infertility.

Professor Peter Illingworth – medical director of IVF Australia and a renowned conception specialist says this single hormone test will be of great help in determining younger women who have a serious risk of not having children easily in future.

The test is named Anti – Mullerian Hormone test and is expected to cost somewhere around US $ 60.

Females are born with between 1-2 million eggs in their ovaries. Once menstrual cycles start, females begin shedding them. The number goes on declining – at the age of 20 a female has around 200,000 eggs, at 30 about 100,000 and at 40 the number dwindles down to as low as 2,000.

The Anti – Mullerian Hormone test will be offered in Australian IVF clinics from next month.
