
Nude Yoga, also known as Naked Yoga and Nudist Yoga, is the practice of Yoga wihtout clothes. Nude Yoga is gaining popularity in western countries as they are more familiar and comfortable with social nudity. Ofcourse there are many schools of thought in India whose followers don’t wear clothes. Notable among them are Digambar and Naga sadhus.
Yoga has been enthusiastically adopted by many foreign countries in the latter half of the 20th century. Nude Yoga has received attention from media in these nations. Some films which have highlighted Nude Yoga are Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice, The Harrad Experiment and Naked Yoga.
Major reasons behind the popularity of Nude Yoga are :
* Greater freedom of movement due to the absence of clothes.
* No need to purchase and wear expensive Yoga outfits.
* Acceptance of one’s own body with all it’s imperfections.
* Thrill brought about by challenging accepted social norms.
It can be discomforting to practice Yoga without any clothes on, specially in a group. Therefore, practitioners are advised to have enough knowledge and understanding of the priniciples of Yoga.
